In Tanzania only US dollar notes printed after the year 2006 are accepted. ‘Older' notes are not accepted anywhere, even in banks; so for hotels, tips, shopping, ensure you carry notes printed after the year 2006.
Major foreign currencies - particularly US dollar, UK Pounds and the EU Euro - are accepted and are convertible at banks and bureaux de changes in the main towns and tourist areas. Traveller’s cheques will not be accepted either for exchange or payment.
Credit cards are not widely accepted. Credit and Debit Cards can be used and ATM points are found in most of the larger towns in Tanzania including Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Moshi, Tanga, Mwanza and Kigoma. It is not recommended to change money on the street.
Mbali Mbali Lodges and Camps accepts credit card payments for bookings. Payment links are sent via email once your entire booking has been processed by our Reservations Department. Please note there is a 5% transaction fee added to use this payment gateway. Alternatively, guests are able to pay for their booking via wire transfers through their banks.
